Evaluation: In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Our media production was influenced by today’s modern art. We used effects such as classic black and white and blurring to establish an abstract indie-pop video. We set out to produce a Mancunian back drop, which would then allow our narrative of two enrol. Typically following conventions of similar videos of the same Genre i.e. Oasis- Importance of Being Idle. However, conventions were broken as the modern art theme was used to a greater extent as the video continues. With effects such as altering the colour balance. This adds a quirky spin, enhancing the new 21st century take on music and life.

Audience, Elements, Budget

Audience: The content of this music video will consist of different types of scenes. All the scenes will be child friendly and the lyrics do not contain derogatory word. The main target audience include kids, teenagers and adults. This video doesn’t fix on a particular audience to appeal therefore its viewer friendly to anyone that’s attracted to the song.

Suggested Elements:

·        Will include some amount of panning.

·        Most part of the filming will be diegetic.

·        Might involve cars.

·        Filming will take place in different condition (weather) to be able to relate to different parts of the song.

·        Some shots of skyline due to research made on google by typing “Manchester scapes” in search engine.

·        Dress code and costumes- this will only include casual attires as some filming will be made in the city centre- this is to make the actors maintain the urban atmosphere throughout the video.

Recording days:

Filming will take place throughout the academic year but we target spend 6- 8 days of recording.

Budget Estimate:

There isn’t a fixed budget for the video as we haven’t got any cost or expenses to take into account yet, although college provides us with the equipments and resources such as the cameras, tripod and computers.

Pre-Production- Stage Dos

Deciding on narrative presented a bigger challenge than we intially we thought, individually we all had our own creative perscpective and there were disagreements on how to proceed. So we tried to envision ourselves as the target audience and talked about how the song affected us. From this we took the view that there was a character out of their depth, feeling isloated and disconnected from those around them; searching for a solace. We all agreed on this concept and rushed to note down on our ideas for the video.

Pre-Production

To prepare for the actual production we had to devise a strategy. The first thing we did was listen to a number of songs and decide what would allow us to have the most creative liscense. In accordance we looked to indie pop, which is known for it's more outlandish artistry, that is when we re-listened to The Fray- Over My Head and found our song. Since we decided on the song, we researched to find out about it, during the process we found that there was already a video to the song. Finding this out threw us momentarily, but as soon as we recovered- we discussed it and decided that we were capable of making a similar standard of video in a different stylistic way, following an appropriate narritive.
